Childcare Worker

About The Role

Fairfield Baptist Church is looking for warm, dependable people to care for our youngest children while their parents worship, study Scripture, and build friendships across our church family.
This is not babysitting. When a mother hands us her eighteen-month-old on a Sunday morning, she is handing us the reason she can sit in the service at all. When a young mom walks into MomCo on a Tuesday, the thing standing between her and two hours of real community is someone willing to hold her toddler well. Our childcare workers make the rest of the ministry of this church possible — and they are often the first face a visiting family ever meets.
Everything we do in Children's Ministry runs on three commitments: Safety, Fun, and Jesus. Children in our care are protected, they are genuinely glad to be here, and they hear that God loves them and sent His Son for them.
Schedule
We are hiring for several shifts. You may apply for one, some, or all of them.

Schedule

  • Sunday: 3 hours in the morning on a weekly basis
  • Tuesday: 2 hours on a weekly basis
  • Wednesday: 2-4 hours on a weekly and/or seasonal basis (follows the Bible study schedule)
  • Thursday: 2-3 hours occasionally

Wednesday shifts run weekly while our Bible studies are in session, and pause between terms. Substitute and on-call positions are also available for those who want flexible hours.

What You'll Do

  • Provide attentive, hands-on care for children ranging from infants through elementary age, depending on the room you are assigned
  • Greet children and parents by name, and help new families feel at ease from their first visit
  • Follow our check-in and check-out procedures exactly, releasing each child only to an adult with the matching security tag
  • Keep required adult-to-child ratios and maintain line of sight with another approved adult at all times
  • Feed, change, comfort, and settle infants and toddlers, and support preschoolers with restroom needs according to our policies
  • Lead and join in age-appropriate play, songs, crafts, and simple Bible stories
  • Redirect behavior patiently and consistently, using positive guidance rather than shame or physical discipline
  • Handle allergies, medications, and dietary restrictions strictly according to each child's file
  • Reset and sanitize the room, toys, and surfaces between services
  • Communicate clearly with parents at pickup about how their child's morning went
  • Report any injury, incident, or concern for a child's welfare immediately

What We're Looking For

Required
  • 18 years of age or older
  • A personal faith in Jesus Christ, and agreement with Fairfield Baptist Church's statement of faith
  • Active involvement in a local church
  • Prior experience caring for children — in a childcare setting, school, camp, church ministry, or as a regular caregiver
  • Genuine warmth toward children and patience with them on hard days
  • Reliability: children and parents need to see the same faces week after week
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, sit and kneel on the floor, and remain actively engaged for the length of a shift
  • Willingness to complete a criminal background check, sex offender registry check, Texas DFPS Central Registry check, and reference checks

Preferred
  • Current infant/child CPR and First Aid certification — but you don't need it to apply. We hold certification class on campus during the first week of the new school year, taught by Debbie, our Mother's Day Out director.
  • Experience with infants and toddlers specifically
  • Experience with children who have special needs or who have experienced trauma
  • Conversational Spanish

Our Commitment to Child Protection

Every person who works with children at Fairfield Baptist Church is screened before their first shift and rescreened periodically. We operate a two-adult rule, controlled check-in and check-out, and clear policies on touch, restroom assistance, discipline, photography, and contact outside of church programming. All staff receive child abuse awareness training and are trained on their personal obligation under Texas law to report suspected abuse or neglect within 48 hours.
We take this seriously, and we expect the same of anyone who joins the team.
