Who Told You That? A 5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide

Day 1: The Foundation of Truth

Reading: John 14:1-14

Devotional: Jesus did not offer Himself as one option among many. He declared Himself to be the singular path to the Father -- the way, the truth, and the life. In a world that insists all roads lead to the same destination, this claim is radical and exclusive. But it is not harsh. It is a gift. When a bridge is out ahead, a sign that says "one way" is not cruelty -- it is rescue. Jesus is that sign. Examine today what you are placing your faith in. Is it worthy? Only Christ has walked through death and returned. Only He is worthy.

Reflection: What voices in your daily life are quietly suggesting that Jesus is merely one option among many? How can you actively reject that message today?

Practical Application: Write down one belief you hold that was shaped more by culture than by Scripture. Bring it before God in prayer and ask Him to renew your thinking around it.

Day 2: Renewing the Mind

Reading: Romans 12:1-2

Devotional: The world is constantly drilling messages into your mind -- about identity, success, relationships, and eternity. Paul describes this as conformity to the pattern of the world, and he calls believers to resist it through the renewing of the mind. This renewal is not passive. It requires deliberate engagement with Scripture, honest examination of what we believe, and the willingness to let God's Word override what culture insists is true. What we believe will always shape how we think and how we act. A mind anchored in truth produces a life that reflects truth. Transformation begins in the mind before it ever reaches behavior.

Reflection: In what areas of your life have you allowed cultural messaging to shape your thinking more than Scripture has?

Practical Application: Identify one habit -- social media, news, entertainment -- that consistently feeds you messages contrary to Scripture. Set a specific boundary around it this week and replace that time with Scripture reading.

Day 3: The Narrow Gate and the Wide Road

Reading: Matthew 7:13-14; Acts 4:8-12

Devotional: Jesus described two gates and two roads. The wide road is easy, well-traveled, and leads to destruction. The narrow gate is hard to find, rarely chosen, and leads to life. Peter echoed this in declaring that there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved. These are not popular statements. They never were. But popularity has never been the measure of truth. The narrow gate is not narrow because God is stingy. It is narrow because sin is serious, holiness is real, and the only one who could satisfy the demands of a holy God was Jesus Christ Himself.

Reflection: Have you ever softened the exclusivity of the gospel to avoid conflict or discomfort? What did that cost you or the person you were speaking with?

Practical Application: Practice articulating the gospel clearly and lovingly to yourself today. Say it out loud. Prepare yourself to share it with someone this week without softening its core claims.

Day 4: God's Desire for All People

Reading: 1 Timothy 2:1-6; 2 Peter 3:8-9

Devotional: The exclusivity of the gospel is never an excuse for indifference toward those outside of it. God desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. He is patient, not wishing that any should perish. The narrow gate is not locked -- it is open, and God is calling people through it every day. The question is not whether God wants people to be saved. He does. The question is whether those of us who know the way are willing to point others toward it. We are ambassadors. We carry the message of reconciliation. Someone near you needs to hear it from you.

Reflection: Who in your life is walking toward a Christless eternity, and how long have you known them without sharing the hope of the gospel with them?

Practical Application: Write down the name of one person in your life who does not know Jesus. Commit to praying for them daily this week and ask God to open a door for a genuine conversation about faith.

Day 5: Ambassadors of Reconciliation

Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Matthew 28:18-20

Devotional: Paul writes that God is making His appeal through us. That is a staggering thought. The God of the universe, who desires all people to be saved, has chosen to deliver that message through ordinary, redeemed people. We are His ambassadors. An ambassador does not speak on their own authority or share their own opinions -- they carry the message of the one who sent them. If we truly believe there is one way, one name, one Savior, then our lives must reflect the urgency of that belief. Eternal consequences are real. The gospel is true. Someone is waiting to hear it from you today.

Reflection: What does your daily life communicate to those around you about what you believe regarding eternity? Does your behavior reflect someone who believes the gospel has eternal stakes?

Practical Application: This week, take one intentional step toward sharing the gospel -- invite someone to church, have a direct conversation about faith, or send a message to someone you have been meaning to reach out to. Do not wait for a perfect moment. Be the ambassador God has called you to be.
