5-Day Bible Reading Plan and Devotional Guide: "God Made Me This Way"
Day 1: The Creator and His Creation
Reading: Genesis 1:26-31; Psalm 139:13-16
Devotional: From the smallest caterpillar to the vast expanse of the stars, God's creative genius knows no bounds. The same God who spoke the universe into existence fashioned every detail of who you are. Your personality, your limitations, your strengths, the color of your eyes — none of it was accidental. Before you drew your first breath, He knew you completely. The danger we face is taking what God has made and repurposing it for our own designs rather than His. Today, resist the temptation to define yourself on your own terms. Rest in the truth that you were made by a God who does not make mistakes.
Reflection Questions:
Practical Application: Write down three specific traits God has given you. Spend time in prayer thanking Him for each one and asking Him how He intends to use those traits for His glory.
Day 2: The Lie of Self-Expression
Reading: Genesis 3:1-7; Proverbs 14:12
Devotional: The oldest lie in human history is not a denial of God's existence. It is a quiet, crafty question about whether God's instructions still apply to you. In Genesis 3, the serpent does not tell Eve that God is not real. He simply asks whether God really meant what He said. The lie of self-expression whispers the same thing today: that your desires are trustworthy guides, that denying yourself anything is a failure to be fully human, and that the highest good is your own interpretation of what feels right. But Proverbs reminds us that a path that seems right to a person can lead straight to destruction. The fruit looked good. It always does.
Reflection Questions:
Practical Application: Identify one area where cultural pressure is pushing you toward self-expression over obedience. Write it down and bring it before God in honest prayer, asking Him to align your desires with His Word.
Day 3: The Call to Self-Denial
Reading: Luke 9:23-26; Romans 12:1-2
Devotional: Jesus does not ease His disciples into the cost of following Him. He is direct and unflinching: deny yourself, take up your cross daily, and follow. The cross was not a piece of jewelry in the first century. It was a symbol of total surrender, public humiliation, and death. To pick it up willingly was to declare that your own agenda no longer governs your life. Romans 12 echoes this call, urging believers to offer their bodies as living sacrifices. Self-denial is not self-destruction. It is the pathway to the truest version of the life God designed for you. The one who loses his life for Christ's sake is the one who actually finds it.
Reflection Questions:
Practical Application: Choose one concrete act of self-denial this week, whether it involves your time, your habits, your words, or your resources. Commit to it as an act of worship and record what God teaches you through it.
Day 4: God Is Sovereign Over Your Weakness
Reading: Exodus 4:10-12; 2 Corinthians 12:7-10
Devotional: Moses stood before a burning bush with every excuse he could muster. He was not eloquent. He was slow of speech. Surely God had the wrong man. But God's response cuts through every objection with a single question: Who made your mouth? God is not surprised by your limitations. He is not scrambling to find a more qualified candidate. He is sovereign over every deficiency you bring to the table. Paul discovered the same truth from a different angle, learning that God's power is made perfect precisely in human weakness. Your inadequacy is not an obstacle to God's work. In the hands of a sovereign Creator, it becomes the very stage on which His strength is displayed.
Reflection Questions:
Practical Application: Take one step this week toward something you have been avoiding because you feel unqualified. It may be volunteering in a ministry, reaching out to someone in need, or saying yes to a responsibility you have been declining. Bring your weakness to God first and ask Him to be strong in it.
Day 5: Delight in the Designer
Reading: Psalm 37:3-5; Hebrews 12:1-3
Devotional: The antidote to the lie of self-expression is not white-knuckled rule-following. It is delight. Psalm 37 calls us to trust in the Lord, to do good, to befriend faithfulness, and to delight ourselves in Him. When we set our gaze on Jesus, as Hebrews 12 instructs, something in us begins to shift. We see a Savior who endured the cross, despising its shame, for the joy set before Him. He created the tree He was nailed to. He created the iron that formed the nails. And He laid His life down willingly, so that you might be set free. When you truly see what He has done, laying your life down in return becomes not a burden but a joy.
Reflection Questions:
Practical Application: Begin each morning this week by reading Hebrews 12:1-3 before you look at your phone or engage with anything else. Ask God to fix your eyes on Jesus throughout the day and journal one way each evening that you noticed Him at work.
This reading plan is designed to be used individually or within a small group or life group setting. Consider sharing your reflections with a trusted fellow believer who can walk alongside you in the journey toward self-denial, faithful obedience, and deeper delight in God.

Reflection Questions:
- In what areas of your life have you tried to redefine yourself apart from what God says about you?
- How does knowing that God designed every detail of who you are change the way you see yourself today?
Practical Application: Write down three specific traits God has given you. Spend time in prayer thanking Him for each one and asking Him how He intends to use those traits for His glory.

But Proverbs reminds us that a path that seems right to a person can lead straight to destruction. The fruit looked good. It always does.
Reflection Questions:
- Where in your life are you hearing the question "Did God really say?" and how are you responding to it?
- What desires are you currently justifying that may be leading you away from God's design?
Practical Application: Identify one area where cultural pressure is pushing you toward self-expression over obedience. Write it down and bring it before God in honest prayer, asking Him to align your desires with His Word.
Day 3: The Call to Self-Denial
Reading: Luke 9:23-26; Romans 12:1-2

Reflection Questions:
- What does it practically look like for you to deny yourself today in a specific situation you are facing?
- In what ways has self-denial led to unexpected freedom or joy in your past experience?
Practical Application: Choose one concrete act of self-denial this week, whether it involves your time, your habits, your words, or your resources. Commit to it as an act of worship and record what God teaches you through it.

Your inadequacy is not an obstacle to God's work. In the hands of a sovereign Creator, it becomes the very stage on which His strength is displayed.
Reflection Questions:
- What weakness or inadequacy has kept you from stepping forward in faith or service?
- How does God's response to Moses challenge the way you have been thinking about your own limitations?
Practical Application: Take one step this week toward something you have been avoiding because you feel unqualified. It may be volunteering in a ministry, reaching out to someone in need, or saying yes to a responsibility you have been declining. Bring your weakness to God first and ask Him to be strong in it.

Reflection Questions:
- What are you currently setting your gaze on that is shaping your desires more than Jesus is?
- How does the image of Christ on the cross, made from His own creation, deepen your understanding of His love for you?
Practical Application: Begin each morning this week by reading Hebrews 12:1-3 before you look at your phone or engage with anything else. Ask God to fix your eyes on Jesus throughout the day and journal one way each evening that you noticed Him at work.
