Day 1: The Weight We Were Never Meant to Carry Alone

Reading: 2 Corinthians 1:8-10

Devotional: Paul does not soften the truth of his suffering. He describes being burdened beyond strength, despairing even of life itself. This is not the language of a man who believed God would never give him more than he could handle. This is the language of a man brought to his absolute end. And yet Paul identifies the purpose buried inside the pain: that we would stop relying on ourselves and start relying on the God who raises the dead. Your breaking point is not evidence of God's absence. It is often the precise location where God does his most transforming work. Where in your life are you still insisting on carrying what you were never designed to carry alone?

Day 2: Temptation, Suffering, and the Truth In Between

Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:13

Devotional: This verse is one of the most misquoted promises in all of Scripture. It speaks specifically about temptation, not suffering. God promises that no temptation will arrive without a way of escape, that you are never so cornered by sin that you cannot say no. But hardship is a different matter. Difficulty, loss, illness, and grief can and do exceed our capacity to endure. Understanding this distinction matters enormously. When we misapply this verse to suffering, we set up a false expectation that leads to confusion and even anger toward God when life becomes unbearable. Read the verse in its proper context today and let the actual promise strengthen you rather than the misread one mislead you.

Day 3: God's Presence Is the Promise

Reading: Isaiah 43:1-3

Devotional: God does not promise his people dry ground. He promises to be with them in the water. He does not promise that the fire will not be lit. He promises that the flame will not consume them. This is the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who walked with them through the furnace, not around it. The promise of divine presence does not eliminate suffering, but it fundamentally transforms it. You are not navigating your hardship in the dark alone. The God who calls you by name, who formed you and redeemed you, is present in the deepest and most disorienting moments of your life. Sit with that truth today and let it reorient your perspective.

Day 4: The Gift of Community in Unbearable Seasons

Reading: Galatians 6:1-5

Devotional: Paul instructs believers to bear one another's burdens as a fulfillment of the law of Christ. This is not a suggestion for the spiritually advanced. It is the normal, expected rhythm of life within the body of Christ. Burdens are meant to be shared. Vulnerability is not weakness. Raising your hand and saying "I cannot do this alone" is one of the most courageous and faith-filled things a person can do. The church exists in part so that no one has to despair in isolation. Consider today whether you are carrying something that you need to bring into community, and whether there is someone near you whose burden you are positioned to help carry.

Day 5: The Debt We Could Not Pay and the Grace That Covered It

Reading: Romans 5:6-8

Devotional: The clearest evidence that God gives us more than we can handle is the reality of sin itself. The debt we owe is so vast, so far beyond any human capacity to repay, that no amount of effort, discipline, or religious striving could ever settle it. And yet God, in his mercy, did not wait for us to find a way. He sent his Son while we were still helpless, still failing, still enemies of grace. What we could not fix, God fixed. What we could not carry, Christ carried to the cross. If you have never surrendered your life to Jesus, today is the day to stop trying to handle what only he can resolve.
